Whale makes two ranges of heater for caravans, motorhomes and campervans: the Expanse and Rapid Heat gas and electric water heaters, in 8 litre and 13 litre sizes, and the HeatAir blown air space heaters, sold as the 3GT, 4G, 5GTE and 6GTE. Some parts are shared between the two ranges — the primary control PCBs and the antisurge fuse are marked "space and water heater" for exactly that reason — so both are kept together on this page.

The parts that usually fail are the temperature sensor, the overheat thermostat, the pressure relief drain valve and its lever, the electrode assembly, and on the blown air heaters the motor and impeller unit and the gas PCB. Electrode assemblies differ by heater size: the 220mm electrode is the 8 litre heater, the 330mm is the 13 litre.

The part number is on the rating plate on the heater body — an AK number for a spare, a SET number for a complete heater. On an underfloor installation the plate faces downwards, so it is often easier to take the number from the installation paperwork. Ducting fittings for the HeatAir system are included here as well, in 90mm and 65mm.
